“Deep Faith, Not Money” : Virat Kohli’s Team Responds to ₹5 Crore Ashram Claim

New Delhi : A controversy has erupted around Virat Kohli’s visits to spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj’s ashram in Vrindavan after a claim surfaced alleging that the Indian cricketer was paid ₹5 crore to visit the spiritual leader. Kohli’s representatives have now strongly rejected the allegation, describing it as “completely false, baseless and factually incorrect.”

According to Kohli’s team, the cricketer’s visits to Premanand Maharaj are driven by faith, devotion and deep reverence, and not by any financial arrangement. The controversy began after Dinesh Sharma, who is known as Falahari Maharaj and is associated with the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sangharsh Nyas, reportedly made the claim in a television interaction.

As reported in the allegation, a property-builder lobby and a private company from Rajasthan had allegedly paid ₹5 crore to facilitate Kohli’s visit to Premanand Maharaj’s Kelikunja Ashram. The claim subsequently circulated widely on social media. However, Kohli’s official representatives have categorically denied the allegation and urged media organisations and social-media platforms to verify information before reporting or amplifying such claims.

In its clarification, Kohli’s team maintained that the cricketer has visited Premanand Maharaj because of his personal faith and respect for the spiritual leader. Kohli and his wife, actress Anushka Sharma, first visited Premanand Maharaj’s ashram in Vrindavan in January 2023, and the couple have subsequently been seen visiting the spiritual leader on different occasions.

Their visits have often attracted significant public attention, particularly because of Kohli’s stature as one of India’s most prominent cricketers. The latest controversy, however, has shifted the focus from the couple’s spiritual visits to an alleged financial transaction, which Kohli’s camp has firmly denied. The statement from the cricketer’s representatives also comes amid growing calls for greater verification of viral claims involving public figures.

Kohli’s team has made it clear that the ₹5 crore allegation should not be treated as established fact and has urged the media and public to exercise caution before circulating unverified information. With the denial now officially on record, the controversy has once again highlighted how claims involving celebrities can quickly spread across social-media platforms before their authenticity is established.
