Tomorrow Was His 31st Birthday, December Was His Wedding : But Rayagada Soldier Never Came Home

Odisha, Rayagada: There were wedding preparations at home, dreams of a new life in his heart, and tomorrow was supposed to be his 31st birthday. His family was eagerly waiting for him to return home during Diwali, while December 10 had already been fixed as his wedding date. But fate had a heartbreaking plan of its own. The young man whom his family was waiting to welcome home for the beginning of a new chapter in his life will never return.

Rayagada’s brave son, V. Teja, serving as a jawan with the Assam Rifles, was martyred while on duty in Nagaland. Teja reportedly sustained a gunshot injury while performing his duty in Nagaland on Monday and collapsed at the spot. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead. The tragic news sent shockwaves through Rayagada, plunging his family, friends and the entire locality into deep mourning.

Teja had joined the Indian Army in 2022 and had been serving the nation as a member of the Assam Rifles. According to his family, Teja was supposed to celebrate his 31st birthday on October 7, just a day after his martyrdom. His wedding had also been scheduled for December 10, and preparations for the ceremony had already begun at home. A 50-day leave had reportedly been sanctioned for him, and the family was expecting him to return to Rayagada around Diwali. His loved ones had imagined his arrival bringing happiness, laughter and excitement to the household as preparations for his wedding gathered pace.

Instead, the family is now waiting for his mortal remains to return home. The tragedy is even more painful because Teja’s life was filled with plans and dreams that were so close to becoming reality. A young soldier who had been looking forward to his birthday, his wedding and a new phase of life ultimately laid down his life while serving the nation. Amid the immense grief, however, Teja’s family has revealed another deeply moving aspect of his life his decision to become an organ donor.

Around two years ago, Teja had reportedly signed a declaration expressing his wish to donate his organs. Following his wishes, his organs were reportedly retrieved and preserved at a local hospital, according to his younger brother. In death, the young soldier has therefore continued his commitment to serving others, with his organs potentially giving hope and a new lease of life to people in need. His mortal remains are expected to be brought to Visakhapatnam by a special helicopter via Hyderabad, after which they will reportedly be transported to Rayagada by a special ambulance.

The scenes awaiting his family are heartbreaking the house that was preparing for wedding celebrations will now mourn the loss of its beloved son, and the family that had been counting the days for his return will now wait for his final journey home. The wedding dreams that Teja and his family had cherished remain unfulfilled, and the future he had imagined for himself has come to an abrupt end.

Yet, his sacrifice for the nation and his selfless decision to donate his organs have given his life a meaning that will extend far beyond his years. Teja may have left this world, but his courage, patriotism and sacrifice will remain alive in the hearts of his loved ones and the people he served. His birthday may now be marked by tears instead of celebrations, but the legacy of the young soldier who gave his life for the nation and chose to give life to others will never be forgotten.
