Amritsar,Punjab : In a major breakthrough against cross border narcotics and illegal arms smuggling Counter Intelligence Amritsar has apprehended four accused and recovered 27 kg of heroin, a sophisticated foreign made 30 bore PX5 pistol and three cartridges, police said.
According to the preliminary investigation the arrested accused were allegedly operating in coordination with a Dubai based operative and cross-border smugglers. They were reportedly receiving consignments and supplying the contraband further on the instructions of the Dubai-based handler
The recovery of the large quantity of heroin and a foreign made pistol has highlighted the alleged links between narcotics trafficking and illegal arms supply networks operating across the border.
An FIR has been registered at the Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar under relevant provisions of law. Police have launched further investigation to establish the complete backward and forward linkages of the network.
Investigators are also working to identify other individuals allegedly involved in the smuggling chain and ascertain the source, intended recipients and broader network associated with the recovered narcotics and weapon.
Punjab Police said it remains committed to maintaining strict vigil against cross-border smuggling and taking decisive action against drug trafficking, illegal arms supply and organised criminal networks.
