New Delhi : At a time when global geopolitics is undergoing a major transformation, a significant diplomatic message has emerged from New Delhi, with Chinese President Xi Jinping calling for stronger cooperation between India and China and saying that the two Asian powers can learn from each other’s strengths and capabilities.
During his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Xi emphasized that India and China, as two major developing nations and important members of the Global South, can work together to create new avenues for development, progress and cooperation.
According to a Reuters report citing China’s state-run Xinhua news agency, Xi said the two countries should make better use of their respective strengths and work towards opening new paths of growth. His message also placed a strong emphasis on the BRICS platform, with Xi calling for India and China to work together to further strengthen cooperation among BRICS members and enhance the grouping’s role on the global stage.
The remarks assume particular significance as the two leaders met on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, where major emerging economies are seeking greater cooperation on trade, development, technology, finance and global governance.
Xi also described China-India relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, indicating that stable and constructive ties between the two countries could contribute not only to their own economic development but also to greater cooperation across the wider BRICS grouping. With India and China being two of Asia’s largest economies and influential voices of the Global South, closer engagement between New Delhi and Beijing could have a wider impact on the evolving international order.
The Modi-Xi meeting therefore carries significance beyond bilateral relations, as both sides look to maintain dialogue, expand areas of cooperation and strengthen their role in shaping the future of BRICS.
