Here, devotees receive mehendi as prasad, and according to a long-standing religious belief, unmarried men and women who apply this sacred mehendi to their hands may have the obstacles in their marriage removed and their marriage prospects may soon improve.

Every year, ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, the temple celebrates the traditional ‘Sinjara’ festival with great devotion and grandeur. During the special occasion, Lord Ganesha is offered mehendi as part of the rituals. After the rituals, the mehendi is distributed among devotees as prasad.

According to the temple’s tradition, the Sinjara ritual is believed to be around 200 years old, making it a deeply cherished part of the temple’s religious heritage.

The most fascinating part of this tradition is the belief surrounding the mehendi offered at Lord Ganesha’s feet. Devotees believe that applying this prasad to their hands can help remove obstacles in marriage and bring the possibility of finding a suitable life partner. Because of this faith, thousands of unmarried men and women reportedly visit the temple every year, hoping to receive the special mehendi prasad and seek Bappa’s blessings for their future.

What makes the tradition even more remarkable is its growing scale. It is said that the ritual initially began with just around 2.5 kg of mehendi, but as the number of devotees and the popularity of the tradition grew, the quantity increased dramatically. Mehendi is reportedly sourced from Sojat in Rajasthan, a region famous for its mehendi production. This year, around 3,500 kg of mehendi has reportedly been arranged for the special ritual before being offered and distributed among devotees.

For many devotees, the visit is not simply about seeking a marriage partner. Some return to the temple after their wishes are fulfilled to express gratitude to Lord Ganesha. Several devotees reportedly claim that after receiving and applying the mehendi prasad, their marriage discussions or engagements took place within a few months. While such experiences strengthen the faith of devotees, the belief remains religious and spiritual rather than scientifically proven.

For believers, however, the mehendi is much more than just a beauty tradition it represents hope, faith and blessings from Lord Ganesha. From a small ritual involving a few kilograms of mehendi to an event involving thousands of kilograms and countless devotees, the unique Sinjara tradition of Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple continues to capture attention and inspire faith.
