New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially announced the commencement of the BRICS Summit 2026. It gives me great pleasure to welcome and greet you all at the BRICS summit. I thank you all for your contributions and support. We are not against anyone; we strive to move forward by taking everyone along.
I am delighted to welcome and greet you all to India. During its BRICS presidency, India’s approach has been people-centric and focused on prioritizing humanity. PM Modi also presented 10 proposals at the summit.
PM Modi stated that strength, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability have been our priorities. Alongside these priorities, we have placed special emphasis on connecting BRICS cooperation with the common people. Guided by this vision, more than 350 meetings were organized. We had the opportunity to welcome your teams across 30 cities. I sincerely thank you all for your active contribution and cooperation in making India’s BRICS presidency a success. Over the past 20 years, BRICS has carved out a distinct identity for itself on the global stage.
This year’s BRICS summit marks a historic milestone. We are also celebrating the 20th anniversary of BRICS. The age of twenty marks the beginning of a new phase of maturity and responsibility in a person’s life. Today, BRICS, too, has reached a stage of maturity. Over the past two decades, BRICS has carved out a distinct identity for itself on the global stage. We respect each other’s perspectives and move forward based on consensus. Our aim is not to oppose anyone, but to move forward by taking everyone along. The time has now come for us to translate our unity and consensus within BRICS into tangible, impactful results on the global stage.
Speaking from the BRICS platform, PM Modi called for reforms in the UN Security Council. He stated that we should formulate proposals for global reform. PM Modi emphasized the need to work on an agenda with new and ambitious goals for the next twenty years. We should initiate this process by addressing our own internal working systems. While the BRICS presidency rotates annually, this should not impact our institutional functioning.
