New Delhi : A big change is about to happen in the history of the National Film Awards. For the first time in 72 years, this award ceremony will be held outside Delhi. This year, the event will be held at Kevadiya Ekta Nagar in Gujarat on September 22. President Draupadi Murmu will present the awards to the winners. She will present the National Film Awards during her visit to Gujarat later this month.
The National Film Awards were established in 1954. The inaugural ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi and most of the subsequent ceremonies have also been held there. As a result, the 72nd National Film Awards being held outside Delhi is a significant change. This will be the first time in 72 years that the event will be held in Gujarat instead of New Delhi. According to officials, this time it was decided to host the ceremony in Kevadia.
Talking about Ekta Nagar in Gujarat, the city is known as the ‘Statue of Unity’, where the tallest statue in the world is located. This 597-foot-tall statue is of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it in 2018.
‘Article 370’ has won the Best Feature Film award and its lead actress Yami Gautam has been selected as the Best Actress. Malayalam superstar Mammootty and Bollywood star Kartik Aaryan will get the Best Actor award for their roles in ‘Brahma Yugam’ and ‘Chandu Champion’ respectively. Actor-filmmaker Randeep Hooda will be awarded the Best Debut Director award for his biopic on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’.
Telugu science fiction film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ will be awarded the Most Popular Film Providing Great Entertainment, while Tamil film ‘Captain Miller’, directed by Arun Matheswaran and starring Dhanush in the lead role, has been selected as the Best Feature Film Promoting National, Social and Environmental Values.
