Gandhinagar, Gujrat: A total of 184 suspected cases of Chandipura virus have been registered in the state so far, out of which 35 cases have tested positive. Of the suspected cases, 22 children have died of Chandipura virus so far. Currently, 7 positive patients are under treatment in various civil hospitals in the state, while 6 patients have been discharged. Super-specialist treatment is being provided to patients in civil hospitals of Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha-Himmatnagar, Patan, Rajkot and Bhavnagar.
The health system is running out of steam as the number of Chandipura virus cases in the state is continuously increasing. A total of 184 suspected cases of Chandipura virus have been reported in the state so far, out of which 35 cases have been confirmed positive during laboratory testing. This virus is seriously affecting the health of children and so far 22 children have tragically died from the suspected cases.
Currently, 7 positive patients are under treatment in various civil hospitals of the state, while 6 patients have been discharged after their condition improved. To ensure that the patients get the best treatment, super-specialist treatment is being provided in civil hospitals of Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha-Himmatnagar, Patan, Rajkot and Bhavnagar. The Health Department has issued clear and strict instructions to government and private hospitals to immediately admit patients with symptoms of Chandipura virus to ICU beds.
Intensive work has been undertaken by the Health Department to prevent the spread of the virus. Pesticides are being sprayed in livestock areas and rural areas to control the infestation of sandflies that carry the virus. A campaign is being run to fill the cracks in mud or mud houses, where these flies take shelter.
Chandipura virus especially affects young children quickly. The health department has appealed to the public to immediately contact the nearest government hospital without wasting time if any symptoms like fever, vomiting or cramps appear in children. Timely diagnosis and treatment are the best way to protect against this virus.
